While in Penang, you want to be sure to find things to do in Penang that cover the entire area. While there are plenty of tourist attractions in Malaysia located within the center of Penang, some of the best experiences will take you farther away, such as going to the Tropical Fruit Farm.
The Tropical Fruit Farm takes advantage of the fact that Malaysia is home to 370 different types of edible fruits and grows many of these in one location, making it easy for locals and tourists alike to find a wide selection.
The Tropical Fruit Farm is home to 250 species of fruit on 25 acres of land. The farm is around 800 feet above the sea level, among the hills of Teluk Bahang, and this means that in addition to sampling delicious fruit, you will also be able to take advantage of beautiful views of the area, letting you see several of the places to visit in Penang off in the distance.
When the Tropical Fruit Farm was first developed in 1993, it aimed to conserve exotic and rare fruit trees, provide education, and help with eco- and agro-tourism. Today the orchard offers exotic fruits from around the world, including the Pacific Islands, the Caribbean, the Middle East, India, Central Africa, South and Central America, and of course local fruits as well. To continue its message, the Tropical Fruit Farm relies on organic fertilizers, reducing the amount of chemicals in the environment.
When you enter the Tropical Fruit Farm, your admission fee will cover a guided tour as well as a meal if you so choose. The guided tour takes about 30 minutes and the tours can be in English or Chinese. At the end of every tour, you get to enjoy freshly sliced fruit as well as fresh squeezed fruit juice while relaxing and taking advantage of the view.
Depending on when you plan to visit, you can opt for the guided farm tour as well as a BBQ lunch or dinner with the lunch being served from 12 to 3 and the dinner from 6 to 8. Each of these requires previous booking, but includes a buffet and unlimited fresh fruit juice, making it one of the best things to do in Malaysia for those who want to try local cuisine while enjoying breathtaking views.
While on the Tropical Fruit Farm, you can also choose to purchase some fresh fruit or fruit juice to take back with you to your hotel. You can also get fruit-shaped keychains, magnets, flower pots, toys, vases, and products such as coconut oil.
Tropical Fruit Farm is located in Teluk Bahang. The farm is open from 9 am to 5 pm each day and the price depends on what you plan on doing. The farm visit alone is RM35 for adults and RM25 for children. With lunch, it is RM60 or RM45 and with dinner, it is RM80 or RM70. Some tour companies will offer transportation to the farm for an increased price, generally around £35 to 40.
As with all the other natural places to visit in Malaysia, the Tropical Fruit Farm can only last as long as visitors continue to care for it. Encourage its mission by respecting the plants and you will have a wonderful experience.
